'Hi Ken, do you know how much is a runtime license please? We are facing same issue with our peopletools 8.50 upgrade and we are starting to look for different solutions and costs. Thanks in advance. ---------------Original Message--------------- From: ccavett Sent: Tuesday, May 04, 2010 11:17 AM Subject: Microfocus COBOL license problems > Has anyone else had problems with Microfocus COBOL licenses after moving a virtual server to a new host? > > We are trying to install version 5.1 of Net Express for our PeopleTools 8.50 upgrade. > > Oracle won't give us a new license until we revoke the old one. > > I went to our installation of Net Express 4.0 for Tools 8.48, but was unable to generate a revoke key. I've been through this a couple of times. You need to work with your Oracle account rep to smooth the way. If you just rely on the helpdesk, you might not find it easy. Call your account rep and have them help you through it - if you pay for support (and you should), this is their problem to solve - make that crystal clear. (I'm totally NOT a fan of Oracle and Microfocus's licensing in this area - it's anti-productive and some of those guys forget who pays their wages?) As stated in their document, you buy the license for the compiler and they give you a code which allows for an unlimited number of runtimes. 'While a number of vendors sell the Micro Focus COBOL Compiler, Oracle/PeopleSoft has negotiated a very competitive price for a compiler package that includes a license covering an unlimited number of run-time users. This is crucial for a PeopleSoft Enterprise system because the same run-time license from another vendor would invariably be priced on a per-CPU basis and result in a much higher price. In addition, Oracle/PeopleSoft is best equipped to support the installation and use of the product within a PeopleSoft infrastructure. For these reasons it is highly recommended by both Micro Focus and Oracle that you purchase the Micro Focus COBOL Compiler software directly from Oracle.'
